Scratch test analysis with the Calotte Module of FilmDoctor – an interview

Julius (16Y) & Felix Schwarzer (13Y) go back to the “Calotte module” – a software tool developed by the Saxonian Institute of Surface Mechanics (SIO) which helps to get an accurate property profile of a multilayer system. This time, the brothers explain how to use it after scratch tests in the calotte crater. Look what a childsplay that is!

Working with SSA in FilmDoctor Studio – part II

In today’s video tutorial Julius is presenting how you can work with the Scratch Stress Analyzer (SSA) in the SIO-software package FilmDoctor Studio. In contrast to the first part, he therby now shows a scratch stress analysis with only the main scan, and compares the result with those of the video tutorial part I, where the analysis also included pre-scan and post-scan. We will see, that the analysis is way more precise when we have all measurement data comming from the 3-path scratch scan method (pre-scan, main-scan and post-scan).

Working with SSA in FilmDoctor Studio – part I

In this video tutorial Julius is presenting how you can work with the Scratch Stress Analyzer (SSA) in the SIO-software package FilmDoctor Studio. Thereby he concentrates on the analysis of scratches with post- and pre-scan. It will be shown that the profile information from a pre-scan adds very valuable information with respect to the failures observed during the scratch.

Working with OPfC in Filmdoctor Studio – part II

Julius is explaining how to optimize a multilayered system with the software tool “Filmdoctor Studio” step by step. “Filmdoctor”, developed by the Saxonian Institute of Surface Mechanics, SIO, is the ultimate analysing tool for nano indentation.

Working with OPfC in Filmdoctor Studio

15-year-old Julius explains how to work with the SIO software OPfC (Oliver & Pharr for Coatings) and shows an example calculation on a one-layer-system.

Calculating Intrinsic Stresses with FilmDoctor

15-year-old Julius Schwarzer, internship at Saxonian Institute of Surface Mechanics, here presents an expansion of his first video “implants of a lifetime” with improving the material parameters by adding intrinsic stresses. He expalins how it is done with the software “FilmDoctor” developed by SIO.

Implants of a lifetime – intern improves medical devices

Julius Schwarzer, 14-year-old German student, finds a way to improve hip and knee implants during an industrial placement at SIOmec, the Saxonian Institute of Surface Mechanics. Within this 13min video talk he shares his findings with all medical device manufacturers in order to safe expensive, uncomfortable and painfull revision surgery thanks to next generation implants…

SIO presents: FilmDoctor Viewer Tutorial

The little software tool “FilmDoctor® Viewer”, developed by the Saxonian Institute of Surface Mechanics, is a special adaptation of the much more extensive FilmDoctor® software package used to describe any kind of mechanical multilayer contact situations. Thereby, FilmDoctor® Viewer is designed to show the most important features such as 2D and 3D single contact and animations by using a set of specific preadjusted examples. Here: “Scratch on hard coating” (e.g. cutting tools).

Calotte Indentation Method by SIO – a short tutorial

The Calo Indent Method developed by the Saxonian Institute of Surface Mechanics, SIO, is an evaluation method for true surface propierties. It combines calotte grinding and indentation tests in order to determine true relaistic profiles of material properties. Thus, it provides a very effective and cheap way to extract generic material parameters of multi-layered materials.

Fusion Impact Optimization by SIO

This video shall give a brief overview of what can be achieved by using software developed by the Saxonian Institute of Surface Mechanics (SIO) on the example of a simulated multiple impact scenario hitting the wall of an nuclear fusion device. Therby, the software “Fimldoctor”, “IStress” and “Uncertainty Budget Calculator” have been used to calculate stress fields, simulate intrinsic stresses and visualize the results in 3D animations.

Surface Laboratory Assistant (SLA) by SIO – Tutorial

The software “Surface Laboratory Assistant” is developed and distributed by the Saxony Institute of Surface Mechanics, Germany. It serves as central tool for your laboratory work including dimensioning and performing measurements as well as analysing them. Thereby, SLA directly communicates with your measurement device software (MDS). This short tutorial video will demonstrate the detailed analysis of a 1 layer system using contact experiments.
